Karina Sarkissova

Karina Sarkissova was born in Moscow, Russia. She received her training at the Bolschoi Ballet School in Moscow and at the Ballet Conservatory in St. Pölten, Austria. She became a member of the ballet of the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera) in 2000, was named a demi-soloist in 2004, and was promoted to the position of principal dancer in 2009.
Some of her major roles include Phrygia in Renato Zanella's "Spartacus," Hamsatti and Grand Pas in Vladimir Malakhov's "Die Bajadere," Mizzi Caspar and Marie Graefin Larisch in Kenneth MacMillan's "Mayerling," Peasant Couple and Zulma in Elena Tschernischova's "Giselle," Companion of the Prince and Hungarian Dancer in Rudolf Nureyev's "Schwanensee," Fairy of the Sense of Honor in Peter Wright's "Dornröschen," Autumn in Zanella's "Aschenbrödel," Barbie and Spanish Dance in Gyula Harangozò's "Der Nussknacker," Italy in Zanella's "Der Nussknacker," and Prima Donna in "Platzkonzert" von Gyula Harangozò sen. Other important ballets have included Marius Petipa's Grand Pas from "Paquita," George Balanchines's "Apollo," Jiri Kylián's "Petite Mort," and Zanella's "Bolero," "Beethoven Opus 73," "Sensi," and "Duke's Nuts." Additionally, she appeared in Ben van Cauwenbergh's "Tanzhommage an Queen" and in András Lukács's "Whirling." She created the part of The Fox in Zanella's "Renard."
She worked as a choreographer for choreo.lab in 2004, 2006, and 2008.
Her awards and honors include first place at Rieti Danza (1998), second place at the International Ballet Competition in St. Pölten (1998), first place at Fouette Artek Jalta (1998), first place at Prix de Lausanne (1999), and first place at the International Ballet Competition in St. Pölten (2000).
