Norman
Dunfee has had a distinguished career both as a pianist
and as an arts administrator. A native of Grant City,
Missouri, he did undergraduate work in liberal arts
at William Jewell College in Kansas City before completing
master’s and doctoral degrees in piano at the
University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
He performed extensively throughout the United States,
as well as in Germany and in England. In New York City,
he has appeared in numerous recital series, including
the Trinity Church series and the Museum of the City
of New York series. Most recently he collaborated with
Raymond Hughes in a duo-piano recital in a gala benefit
concert in Thomasville, GA to benefit the MedBank Foundation.
Since 1990, Dr. Dunfee has been Executive Director of
MidAmerica Productions, the largest independent producer
of classical concerts in Carnegie Hall. Under his direction,
MidAmerica Productions presents over thirty concerts
of classical choral and orchestral repertoire every
season, bringing together choruses and orchestras from
all across the United States and from abroad; as well
as a separate series of Chamber Music concerts in Weill
Recital Hall. He also serves as Executive Director of
Elysium Recordings, for which he manages research, personnel
and production.
