Irini Tsirakidis was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and grew
up in Piraeus, Greece. Completing her vocal studies with
the well known baritone Kostas Paskalis, she graduated
with excellence in performance and received a gold medal.
A winner of several competitions including the Maria Callas
Competition in Athens and the Aragall Competition in Spain,
Tzirakidis made her professional debut at the Greek National
Opera in 1996 as Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra. She
spent a year in the Greek National Opera performing such
roles as the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro),
Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Antonia
(Les contes d'Hoffmann), Musetta (La bohème),
Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and many more.
Ms. Tsirakidis started her international career two years
later, and has since worked in all the world's major opera
houses, including La Scala, Royal Opera House of London,
Liceu-Barcelona, Carnegie Hall, Bilbao, Rome, Trieste, Dallas,
Minnesota, Strasburg, St. Petersburg, Poland, Chile, Amsterdam,
Tulsa, and many others. She won the Maria Callas award from
Dallas Opera as the best début performer of the year
for her performance there in the title role of Rossini's
opera Ermione.
Her repertoire includes Medea, Ermione,
Lucrezia Borgia, Les contes d'Hoffmann,
La clemenza di Tito, Le nozze di Figaro,
Norma, Il viaggio a Reims, Elizabeth,
Don Carlo, Maometto II, Don Giovanni,
Semiramide, Un ballo in maschera,
Ipighenie en Aulide, La forza del destino,
Cavalleria rusticana, and Verdi's Requiem.
