Maria Bildea was born in Romania and began studying the harp when she was eight years old at the Enescu High School. She attended the Bucharest Academy of Music, graduating in 1986 with honors. That same year she was appointed first harp with the Ploesti National Symphony Orchestra. Two years later she founded the first harp faculty in Greece at the National Conservatory of Thessaloniki, and in 1992 at the Atheneum Conservatory. Since 1989 she has been a member of the World Council of Harpists.
As a soloist, she has collaborated with the major symphony orchestras in Romania (Enesco Philharmonic Orchestra, Bucharest Symphonic Orchestra, Romanian Radio Symphony Orchestra, etc.) as well as the National Orchestra of Thessaloniki, Greek Radio & Television Symphony Orchestra, and the Camerata and Orchestra of Colours. She has appeared on television and as a recitalist in Paris, France. She received first prize at the Romanian National Competitions during 1985, 1986 and 1988, and made the finals at the International Harp Competition in Tel-Aviv and Indiana. Since 1990 she is a member of the Orchestra of Colours and the Greek Radio & Television Symphony Orchestra. She appears as a soloist in festivals and chamber music concerts throughout Greece.
