Alicia Saunders is at present concluding work on a master's degree as a scholarship student in flute performance at The Catholic University of America. She is currently studying with Mrs. Vanita Jones, and is soloist and principal flute with the CUA Symphony Orchestra. While pursuing her Bachelor's degree at Columbia Union College, near Washington D.C. in the United States of America, Alicia was soloist/ principal flute of the New England Symphonic Ensemble, directed by Dr. Virginia Gene Rittenhouse. As an alumni of CUC and the NESE, she has had the priviledge of continuing her performance with the New England Symphonic Ensemble, which has allowed her to perform all over the globe. Besides performing at such venues as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall, both in the U.S., Miss Saunders has toured worldwide as soloist and principal flute to over fifteen countries. She has had the opportunity to play in numerous internationally celebrated venues, among a few, the Lady Chapel of Ely Cathedral and Saint Martin-in-the-Fields, both located in London, England.

Miss Saunders has been granted many scholarships and won numerous competitions and awards, including being selected to participate in master classes with renowned artists, such as Julius Baker, Susan Hoeppner, Michel Debost and Bonita Boyd. She has had the honor of performing as soloist with composer/ conductor John Rutter in London as well as in the 2005 Rock Creek Festival, where the Washington Post critic recognized her for playing with "exuberant elegance." Miss Saunders also participates in the Musical Offering Flute Ensemble, based in the Washington D.C. area, and is a member of the Flute Society of Washington and the National Flute Association. Ms. Saunders performs and teaches flute in the Washington metropolitan area and looks forward to expanding and developing her career after graduation.
